“Of Strolls and Disguises”

Por Mauro Lukasievicz

Green Screen by Nine Antico delves into the experience of a breakup to construct an introspective journey through the city of Venice, a setting full of symbolism and contradictions. Far from portraying the city as a romantic postcard, the director uses its geography and atmosphere to explore the fragmented emotions of a woman trying to find herself amid memories and desires.

The protagonist is not a fixed figure but rather a collection of voices, sensations, and bodies that blend and confuse in a narrative that plays with identity and disguise. The film becomes a reflection of internal confusion, where the urban space, with its labyrinths and canals, acts as a mirror of a mental state divided between the longing to escape and the difficulty of letting go.

Instead of hiding its artifice, the film makes its mechanisms visible: the camera sometimes closely follows the protagonist, other times it gets lost in the city, capturing details that seem like fragments of a dream or blurry memories. The use of minimal effects and the contrast between light and shadow reinforce the feeling of a reality that constantly breaks down and rebuilds itself.

Venice is not only the setting but also a character and accomplice, in its worn beauty and constant movement. The film conveys the ambivalence of a woman facing loneliness and the search for freedom, questioning the very idea of departure and staying in a world that feels both oppressive and full of possibilities.
