El Festival de Cine de Locarno, en su edición número 78, concluyó tras once intensos días de proyecciones, encuentros y estrenos mundiales, consolidándose una vez más como una cita imprescindible para el cine internacional. Entre los nombres que marcaron esta edición, la directora Cecilia Kang brilló con luz propia al obtener el Best Emerging Director Award en la competencia Cineasti del Presente gracias a su película Hijo Mayor.
El reconocimiento a Kang la posiciona como una de las voces emergentes más prometedoras dentro del panorama cinematográfico global. Su obra fue destacada por la crítica por su sensibilidad narrativa y su capacidad para conjugar lo íntimo con lo universal, en un marco que celebra el futuro del cine independiente.
La máxima distinción del festival, el Pardo d’Oro a la mejor película en el Concorso Internazionale, recayó en el japonés Sho Miyake por Tabi to Hibi (Two Seasons, Two Strangers). Esta victoria representa la cuarta ocasión en que Japón conquista el galardón principal en la historia del festival, sumándose a títulos clásicos como Gate of Hell (1954) de Teinosuke Kinugasa o The Rebirth (2007) de Masahiro Kobayashi.
Además, el Premio Especial del Jurado fue para White Snail de Elsa Kremser y Levin Peter, mientras que el Pardo a la Mejor Dirección distinguió a Abbas Fahdel por Tales of the Wounded Land. Los premios a mejor interpretación recayeron en Manuela Martelli y Ana Marija Veselčić por Bog neće pomoći (God Will Not Help), y en Marya Imbro y Mikhail Senkov por White Snail.
