Venice Announces Remaining Jury Members: Fernanda Torres, Mohammad Rasoulof and Cristian Mungiu to Join Alexander Payne

The Venice International Film Festival has unveiled the full list of jury members who will decide the awards for its 82nd edition, which will take place from August 27 to September 6. American filmmaker Alexander Payne, president of the Official Competition jury, will be joined by an outstanding group of prominent figures from the global film scene.

Among the confirmed names are Oscar-nominated Brazilian actress and writer Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here), acclaimed Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof (The Seed of the Sacred Fig), Romanian director, screenwriter and producer Cristian Mungiu, winner of the Palme d’Or for 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, French filmmaker Stéphane Brizé (Out of Season), Italian director Maura Delpero (Vermiglio), and Chinese actress and producer Zhao Tao (Caught by the Tides). The main jury will award the Golden Lion for best film, as well as the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize, the Silver Lion for best director, the Volpi Cups for best actress and best actor, the Special Jury Prize, the award for best screenplay, and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for best young actor or actress.

Meanwhile, the Horizons (Orizzonti) section, dedicated to more cutting-edge works, will be presided over by French filmmaker Julia Ducournau, winner of the Palme d’Or for Titane and who returned to Cannes this year with Alpha. Ducournau will head a jury that includes Italian director and visual artist Yuri Ancarani (The Challenge, Atlantide), Argentine film critic Fernando Enrique Juan Lima, Australian director Shannon Murphy (Babyteeth), and American artist and filmmaker RaMell Ross (Nickel Boys).

Finally, Scottish filmmaker Charlotte Wells (Aftersun) will lead the jury that will award the Luigi de Laurentiis Award for best debut feature, worth $100,000. She will be joined by French-Tunisian director and producer Erige Sehiri (Promised Sky), founder of Rawiyat – Sisters in Film, a collective that supports Arab female filmmakers, and Italian director Silvio Soldini.

The complete lineup for the 82nd Venice Film Festival will be announced on July 22.
