The Thessaloniki International Film Festival has unveiled the official selection for its FilmForward 2025 competition, a section dedicated to showcasing “boundary-breaking” feature films that challenge traditional cinematic forms. This category, recognized for promoting daring perspectives and innovative storytelling, awards two major prizes: the Golden Alexander — Best Feature Film Award, accompanied by an €8,000 cash prize, and the Silver Alexander — Best Direction Award, with a €4,000 reward.
This year’s lineup brings together productions from around the world. The list includes 1001 Frames by Mehrnoush Alia (USA-Iran), Agon by Giulio Bertelli (Italy-USA-France), Balearic by Ion De Sosa (Spain-France), Barrio Triste by Stillz (Colombia-USA), Before / After by Manoël Dupont (Belgium), Don’t Let the Sun by Jacqueline Zünd (Switzerland-Italy), Kingdom by Michał Ciechomski (Poland), Last Night I Conquered the City of Thebes by Gabriel Azorín (Spain-Portugal), The Chronology of Water by Kristen Stewart (France-Latvia-USA), Female by Konstantinos Menelaou (Greece), Regan by Panos Katsimperis (Greece), and Zealotis by Stelios Repanis (Greece).
The 2025 edition of the festival reinforces FilmForward as a reference platform for the boldest cinematic proposals, opening the door to new voices and forms of expression that aim to transform the international landscape of contemporary cinema.
