Syncro Film Fest: Four Days to Celebrate the Boldest Short Films in Contemporary Cinema

From June 26 to 29, Syncro Film Fest returns for its third edition, lighting up the screen of the Leopoldo Lugones Theater at the Buenos Aires Theater Complex. This international festival, dedicated to auteur short films, has established itself as a key space for discovering new voices, narrative forms, and contemporary aesthetics in short-format cinema.

The festival will open on Thursday, June 26 at 9 p.m. with a tribute to four essential filmmakers of contemporary Latin American cinema. The opening night program features Correspondencia: Carta para Serra by Lisandro Alonso, Playback by Agustina Comedi, Flora by Nicolás Pereda, and Las criaturas que se derriten bajo el sol by Diego Céspedes. These four works, each emerging from distinct regions and styles, explore the possibilities of cinematic representation with bold, singular, and deeply self-aware approaches.

Over four days, Syncro will present a program of more than 50 national and international short films across three competition categories: International, Parallel Universes, and Protagonists. A special section titled Through Time will showcase recent works by filmmakers such as Portuguese director Cláudia Varejão, Canadian filmmaker Denis Côté, and German director Helena Wittmann.

This year’s jury includes prominent figures such as Sofia Bohdanowicz, Clarisa Navas, Lucy Kerr, Eduardo Williams, Francisco Lezama, Jazmín López, Juanjo Pereira, Gala Hernández López, and Nicolás Pereda, who is also featured in the opening night lineup.

Syncro has become a meeting point for emerging filmmakers and audiences eager for transformative cinematic experiences. The festival celebrates the short film as a compact, free, and powerful form—one capable of reinventing genres and challenging conventions.

The celebration continues on Saturday, June 28 at 10:30 p.m. with the Syncro Party at Galería Komuna (Galicia 169, Buenos Aires). Free and open to the public.
