Documenta Madrid opens the call for film submissions for its 23rd edition
The Documenta Madrid Festival has officially opened the call for films in competition for its 23rd edition, aimed at the National and International Competitive Sections. Documentary works of any length completed after January 1, 2025, are eligible to apply.
At the same time, the festival has also opened submissions for Corte Final, a section dedicated to supporting documentary projects at an advanced stage of production. This call is open to works between 50 and 120 minutes in length, of Spanish production or co-production, that have completed filming or are in their final stages and have an advanced rough cut.
The submission deadline for both calls is February 20. Full regulations and access to the submission forms are available through the festival’s official channels.
Regarding awards, Documenta Madrid 2026 will maintain the same prize structure as the previous edition. Each competitive section will grant a Best Film Award, endowed with €10,000, as well as the Fugas Award for Innovation, with €5,000 per section. In addition, the Cineteca Madrid Audience Award, worth €1,000 per section, will be decided by audience vote, along with the Cinezeta Award, consisting of a diploma.
The winning project in Corte Final will receive a €4,000 cash prize. This award is complemented by the Agencia Freak Distribution Award, valued at €6,000, which will enable the selected project to create the film’s production files and support its distribution at festivals.
