The Cannes Film Festival has announced the official jury for the 2025 Un Certain Regard section, with British filmmaker Molly Manning Walker presiding over the panel. She will be joined by French-Swiss director and screenwriter Louise Courvoisier, Croatian film curator and director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam Vanja Kaludjercic, Italian filmmaker Roberto Minervini, and acclaimed Argentine actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart.
Dedicated to spotlighting bold, distinctive voices and emerging talents in world cinema, Un Certain Regard will present 20 films this year, including 9 debut features. The section will open on Wednesday, May 14, with Promis le ciel, directed by Tunisian filmmaker Erige Sehiri.
Molly Manning Walker, celebrated for her powerful debut feature How to Have Sex—winner of the Un Certain Regard Prize in 2023 and multiple BAFTA nominations—returns to Cannes as Jury President. Known for her unflinching storytelling, her work explores the complexities of consent and trauma. In addition to directing, she has worked as a cinematographer on projects like Scrapper (Charlotte Regan), also a BAFTA nominee. Walker is currently developing a television series with A24 and a new feature film with Plan B.
Joining her is Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, who gained international recognition at Cannes in 2017 for his moving performance in Robin Campillo’s 120 Beats per Minute, which won the Grand Prix. Since then, he has starred in award-winning films such as Au revoir là-haut by Albert Dupontel, Persian Lessons by Vadim Perelman, Un año, una noche by Isaki Lacuesta, and most recently El Jockey by Luis Ortega. His extensive international career includes work in theater, notably with New York’s Wooster Group and in Ivo van Hove’s 2020 production of The Glass Menagerie.
Last year’s Un Certain Regard Prize went to Guan Hu’s Black Dog, awarded by a jury led by Xavier Dolan. With a dynamic and diverse jury now in place, expectations are high for the 2025 edition to once again highlight cinema that dares to innovate.
