Berlinale 2026 announces Panorama, Generation and independent jury awards
Just hours before the closing ceremony where the Golden Bear will be awarded, the Berlin International Film Festival has announced the prizes for its parallel sections and the honors granted by independent juries. In Panorama, the audience award for fiction went to Prosecution / Staatsschutz by German director Faraz Shariat, while in documentary the top prize was awarded to Traces, by Alisa Kovalenko and Marysia Nikitiuk. In Generation, the standout title was Chicas Tristes (Sad Girlz) by Mexican filmmaker Fernanda Tovar, which won both the Youth Jury’s Crystal Bear and the International Jury’s Grand Prix. Among the independent recognitions, the Ecumenical Jury awarded Moscas (Flies) by Fernando Eimbcke in the main competition, while international critics (FIPRESCI) honored Soumsoum, la nuit des astres by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun. At the Teddy Awards, the top prize went to Iván & Hadoum by Ian de la Rosa. The full list underscores the strong showing of titles like Prosecution / Staatsschutz, which appeared across multiple awards, and sets the tone ahead of the festival’s top honor announcement.
