Eurimages backs new films by Justine Triet, Mia Hansen-Løve, Bertrand Bonello and Cristian Mungiu, among others
The European fund Eurimages has announced the results of its first Project Evaluation Session of 2026, during which it decided to support the co-production of 32 feature films — including two documentaries and one animation — with a total investment of €9,835,000. The decisions were made following recommendations by independent experts who met online, and reflect a strong presence of women filmmakers: 17 of the selected projects are directed or co-directed by women, representing 59.71% of the total funding awarded.
Among the supported titles are new works by acclaimed European filmmakers. French director Justine Triet will receive €500,000 for Fonda (France/Belgium), her first English-language feature following the success of Anatomy of a Fall, starring Mia Goth, Andrew Scott and Frank Dillane. Also receiving €500,000 are Mia Hansen-Løve for If Love Should Die (Ireland/France/Spain/Poland), a biopic about writer Mary Wollstonecraft, and Bertrand Bonello for Santo Subito (France/Italy/Poland), his English-language debut starring Mark Ruffalo.
The list also includes established figures such as Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, who reunites with Ioana Maria Uricaru for Tales from the Golden Age 3 (€450,000), a continuation of their 2009 omnibus film, and Iceland’s Grimur Hakonarson, who will receive €267,000 for A Favour. They are joined by directors including Greece’s Syllas Tzoumerkas, Poland’s Anna Jadowska, Estonia’s Martti Helde, Finland’s Miia Tervo, Bulgaria’s Eliza Petkova, Ireland’s Aisling Walsh and Spain’s Lara Izagirre, among others.
The funding also extends to second fiction features by Dutch filmmakers Jenneke Boeijink, Floor van der Meulen and Teddy Cherim, as well as a wide range of debut features from across Europe and international co-productions, underscoring the fund’s commitment to fostering emerging voices in cinema.
In the documentary section, Eurimages will support Blue Sweater with a Yellow Hole by Ukraine’s Tetiana Khodakivska and The 8th Continent by Dutch filmmakers Luuk Bouwman and Tomas Kaan. The only animated project selected in this session is A World of their Own by Spain’s Carmen Córdoba, which will receive €500,000 in funding.
