The Marché du Film in Cannes expands its scope with new initiatives focused on the digital economy and international exposure
The Marché du Film in Cannes will introduce two new initiatives to its program this year as part of an effort to adapt to the evolving audiovisual landscape and strengthen its role as a global marketplace: the Creator Economy Summit and the Spotlight Screenings. Both initiatives aim to bridge traditional filmmaking with emerging models of content creation and distribution, while also providing greater visibility for institutional players within the sector.
The Creator Economy Summit is conceived as a platform to explore the opportunities arising from the convergence between the film industry and the so-called creator economy—an ecosystem in which digital content producers monetize their audiences عبر social media platforms. In recent years, the growing influence of creators with large followings on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok has begun to reshape how stories are developed, financed, and distributed, fostering new forms of collaboration with the film industry.
In this context, the summit will examine how these creators are increasingly moving into long-form storytelling and film production, generating synergies with traditional studios, producers, and distributors. The event will take place on Sunday, May 17, at the Plage des Palmes, bringing together film industry leaders, digital creators, and innovation experts to discuss case studies, emerging challenges, and future opportunities.
In parallel, the market is launching the Spotlight Screenings, a new screening series designed to highlight key segments of the industry. Its first edition will focus on public institutions and national sales agencies, offering them a dedicated platform to showcase their recent films and productions to a curated audience of international buyers and festival programmers.
These screenings will be held during the second week of the Marché in venues at the Palais and Riviera, with the aim of enhancing the visibility of national catalogs, promoting audiovisual policies, and facilitating direct connections with key players in the global circuit. With these additions, the Marché du Film reinforces its commitment to innovation and to embracing a diversity of models within the global audiovisual landscape.
