DokuFest, one of Southeast Europe’s leading documentary film festivals, has announced the official list of jury members for its 24th edition. A total of seven competition categories will be judged by a diverse group of film professionals, critics, and enthusiasts, who will select the winners from among 100 films representing around 50 countries.
Balkan Dox Jury
Among the jurors in the Balkan Dox category is Robert Tomić Zuber, a Croatian journalist, director, and producer with over two decades of experience in print, radio, and television, including international media such as the BBC. He has received two awards from the Croatian Journalists’ Association and has directed four feature-length documentaries, including Mila Seeking Senida, which won the Human Rights Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival. He currently runs the production company TOROlab, teaches at Zagreb’s Vern University, and is the founder of RAFF – Rab Film Festival in Croatia.
This section also includes Blerina Hankollari, an Albanian producer behind acclaimed titles such as Daybreak and A Cup of Coffee and New Shoes On, both Albania’s official Oscar entries, and Başak Emre, a Turkish producer and festival director who serves on the Board of the European Film Academy.
International Feature Dox Jury
In the International Feature category are Ben Russell, an American experimental artist and filmmaker whose work has been shown at documenta 14, MoMA, and Tate Modern; Sofia Bohdanowicz, a Canadian director whose films are featured on the Criterion Channel and who recently won the Grand Prix at FNC Montréal; and Kamal Aljafari, a Palestinian filmmaker and artist recently honored with a full retrospective at IndieLisboa, who has also taught at Harvard and Columbia.
International Short Dox Jury
For short documentaries, the jury includes Mariana Hristova, a Bulgarian critic and programmer specializing in cinema from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia; Caveh Zahedi, an acclaimed Iranian-American filmmaker known for blending documentary and fiction; and Jenny Luukkonen, a producer and co-production executive for short formats and documentaries at Film i Väst, one of Europe’s leading regional film funds.
International Shorts Jury
In the International Shorts competition, the jury features Andreea Pătru, a Romanian programmer and critic and FIPRESCI member; Hilke Rönnfeldt, a German screenwriter and director who won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival; and Visar Krusha, a Kosovar playwright and producer, and a member of the European Film Academy.
Human Rights Dox Jury
The Human Rights Dox category will be judged by Ares Shporta, a Kosovar cultural manager and producer and current director of the Lumbardhi Foundation; Immy Sutton, who oversees Festivals and Acquisitions at Autlook, a leading sales agency for documentaries; and Jarmila Outratová, Head of Industry and Training at Ji.hlava IDFF.
Green Dox Jury
For the Green Dox category, focusing on environmental topics, the jury includes Lia Furxhi, director of the CinemAmbiente Environmental Film Festival; Aslıhan Demirtaş, an architect and co-founder of KHORA, whose work bridges art and ecology; and Karol Piekarczyk, Artistic Director of Millennium Docs Against Gravity, Europe’s second-largest documentary festival.
National Jury
Finally, the National competition jury will include Barış Karamuço, a Prizren-born visual artist and writer who blends photography and documentary; Jose Cabrera Betancort, a Spanish programmer with two decades of experience and director of the Tenerife Shorts Festival; and Sara Rajaei, an Iranian-Dutch video artist and filmmaker awarded the Prix de Rome, whose work explores time, memory, and narrative.
