Pawlikowski, Hamaguchi, Moretti and Jude Lead the New Line-Up of Eurimages-Supported Projects

The Eurimages Fund of the Council of Europe has announced the results of its second project evaluation session of 2025, selecting 35 new feature films to receive financial support, amounting to a total of €10,738,000. Among the selected titles are new works by renowned filmmakers such as Poland’s Paweł Pawlikowski, Japan’s Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Italy’s Nanni Moretti, Romania’s Radu Jude, and Belgium’s Lukas Dhont and Felix van Groeningen.

The funding decisions, made following recommendations by a panel of independent experts, include support for 5 documentaries and 2 animated features. Of the selected projects, 13 will be directed or co-directed by women, accounting for 39.41% of the total funding awarded.

Among the highlights is 1949/Vaterland by Pawlikowski (Poland/Germany/France/Italy), inspired by Colm Tóibín’s novel The Magician, a fictionalized biography of Thomas Mann, which received €150,000. Moretti’s It Will Happen Tonight (Italy/France/Spain), a romantic drama starring Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca, received €127,000. Hamaguchi secured €476,000 for All of a Sudden (France/Japan/Germany/Belgium), his first European co-production, starring Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto.

Radu Jude was granted €300,000 for Diary of a Chambermaid (France/Romania), a loose adaptation of Octave Mirbeau’s novel, while Lukas Dhont received €500,000 for Coward (Belgium/France/Netherlands), and Felix van Groeningen received €150,000 for Let Love In (Belgium/Italy).

New projects by directors such as Kornél Mundruczó, Adina Pintilie, Bertrand Mandico, Marie Kreutzer, Michaël Roskam, Kristina Grozeva & Petar Valchanov, Marco Martins, Michal Blaško, Klaus Härö, and Siddiq Barmak also received support.

In the documentary category, selected titles include Autumn of the Patriarch by Anna Bogoliubova and Torstein Grude, The Siege of Paradise by Gar O’Rourke, and War on Women by Maris Salumets. The animation section includes Dansker by Jonas Poher Rasmussen and Yugly by Jérémie Degruson and Yanis Belaid.

The selection also features promising debut features such as Ducks by Neary Adeline Hay and The Indies by Pauline Julier and Nicolas Chapoulier. With this new round of support, Eurimages reaffirms its ongoing commitment to cultural diversity and European auteur cinema.
