The renowned documentary film festival Doclisboa has announced the appointment of Argentine programmer and curator Cecilia Barrionuevo as its new co-head of programming, sharing the role with Boris Nelepo.
Barrionuevo has an outstanding international career. She served as the artistic director of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival from 2018 to 2021 and has been part of its programming team since 2010. She currently works as an independent programmer at the prestigious Film at Lincoln Center in the United States.
Over the years, she has collaborated with key cultural and film institutions such as Documenta Madrid, MACBA, Museo Reina Sofía, the Viennale, and the Harvard Film Archive. She is also co-editor of the publication Las Naves Cine and has been honored by the French Ministry of Culture with the title Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
With a plural, critical, and deeply engaged vision of nonfiction cinema, Cecilia Barrionuevo brings to the Doclisboa team a curatorial sensibility that has been celebrated in both Latin America and Europe. Her appointment reinforces the international profile of the Portuguese festival and promises an even more diverse and thought-provoking program in its upcoming editions.
