El Festival de Cine de Locarno anunció la programación completa de su 78ª edición, que se celebrará del 6 al 16 de agosto en Suiza, y confirmó la participación de dos películas argentinas dirigidas por mujeres en la sección Cineastas del Presente, dedicada a nuevas voces del cine mundial. Se trata de Hijo mayor, de Cecilia Kang, y Olivia, de Sofía Petersen.
Hijo mayor, producida por Tarea Fina (Argentina) y coproducida por In Vivo Films (Francia), narra la historia de Lila, una adolescente coreano-argentina que aún no ha encontrado su lugar en el mundo. La película retrocede dieciocho años en el tiempo para seguir a su padre, Antonio, un inmigrante coreano que llega a Latinoamérica persiguiendo el sueño de una nueva vida. Con sensibilidad y mirada íntima, Kang retoma temas como el desarraigo y la construcción identitaria a través del prisma de una familia migrante.
Por su parte, Olivia, de Sofía Petersen, propone un tratamiento místico y poético sobre el tema de la desaparición. Filmada en 16 mm en Tierra del Fuego, con un equipo de solo seis personas y un elenco compuesto por más de treinta no actores, la obra se destaca por su singularidad formal y su potencia visual. El largometraje fue uno de los dos seleccionados para el esquema de postproducción HBF+Europa, lo que confirma el interés internacional que ha despertado este proyecto.
La competencia internacional de Locarno contará con 17 estrenos mundiales y figuras como Radu Jude —quien presentará Dracula, una comedia política radical que el director rumano define como una “carta de amor a Ed Wood”—, Abdellatif Kechiche, Ben Rivers y Maureen Fazendeiro. Además, en la Piazza Grande se proyectarán películas de Jafar Panahi, Joachim Trier, y clásicos como Police Story, de Jackie Chan, quien será homenajeado con un premio a la trayectoria. También se verán títulos protagonizados por Willem Dafoe y Emma Thompson, quien recibirá un reconocimiento especial.
El director artístico Giona A. Nazzaro subrayó el compromiso del festival con el cine como arte vivo y en transformación, afirmando que Locarno “trabaja por la humanidad, una película a la vez”. La presidenta del festival, Maja Hoffmann, remarcó que esta edición será “ambiciosa y emocionante”, y un acto de defensa del cine independiente en tiempos de cambio.
