The prestigious Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival (TiDF) has announced that submissions are now open for its 28th edition, which will take place from March 5 to 15, 2026. Recognized as one of the most important documentary festivals in Europe and an Oscars® qualifying festival for the Documentary Feature category, TiDF invites filmmakers from around the world to submit their works.

The festival will feature four competition sections: the International Feature Length Competition, the Newcomers International Competition, the >>Film Forward International Competition, and the Immersive: All Around Cinema International Competition, which focuses on XR/AR/VR projects that push the boundaries of the cinematic experience.

Early bird submissions will be accepted until September 15, 2025, with an entry fee of 35 euros per project. After that, films can be submitted until November 30, 2025, with a regular fee of 50 euros.

Each section will award outstanding films with the coveted Golden Alexander and cash prizes. The winner of the International Feature Length Competition will receive 12,000 euros and automatic eligibility for Oscar® consideration. The Newcomers Competition, aimed at first or second-time directors, will award 10,000 euros to the winner of the Golden Alexander “Dimitri Eipides”. Meanwhile, the >>Film Forward section, which celebrates experimental works, will grant 6,000 euros to its top film.

To qualify, films must meet requirements such as having been completed within 12 months prior to the festival screening, being a World, International, or European premiere, and not having been publicly screened in Greece. Each section also has a specific minimum runtime: over 70 minutes for feature-length films, over 50 minutes for newcomers, and over 45 minutes for >>Film Forward. XR projects may have been completed up to 24 months prior to the festival.
