The 2025 edition of Ventana Sur once again places the spotlight on short-form creation with a renewed version of VS Cortos, the section dedicated entirely to showcasing the potential of Latin American short films. This year, more than 210 previously unreleased works arrived from across the region, a figure that confirms the format’s role as a privileged space for aesthetic and narrative experimentation among a new generation of filmmakers.

From this selection, only eight projects were chosen to participate in an intensive workshop coordinated by The Short Film Lab, a program designed to foster the artistic and professional growth of short films and their creators. Throughout the workshop, the teams will receive specialized guidance to strengthen their distribution strategies and international outreach. The initiative also includes an exclusive screening for programmers, distributors, and sales agents, as well as one-on-one meetings with key industry figures.

This section’s momentum is supported by a broad network of international cooperation. The project is backed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with institutions and festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand, REGARD, BOGOSHORTS, Málaga Talent – MAFIZ, and Uruguayan companies Subtítulos.tv, Artemisa Lab, and El Mar Film Sound. This collaboration positions VS Cortos as a strategic platform for the development of regional short films within the global industry.

Curatorship was led by filmmaker Álvaro Buela, in collaboration with The Short Film Lab team —including Facundo Lema and Macarena Herrera Bravo— and members of the selection committee of the REGARD Festival in Quebec. Together, they shaped a program that reaffirms the vitality of the short film as a creative engine and a laboratory for new voices in contemporary Latin American cinema.
