The film Emi, directed by Ezequiel Erriquez Mena, will have its European premiere in the official competition of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The announcement came along with the release of its official trailer, which teases a deeply human story centered on the journey of self-discovery of a young man in search of his biological roots. Produced by Rita Cine (Argentina) and El Cielo Cine (Uruguay), the film sensitively portrays the life of Emi, a boy living with his adoptive parents on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, who, upon getting a job at a mechanic’s workshop, embarks on a series of encounters that will transform his understanding of love and identity.
Starring Benicio Mutti Spinetta, alongside Mara Bestelli, Luis Ziembrowski, Sofía Palomino, Alejandro Scaravelli, and Miriam Odorico, Emi unfolds as an honest drama with a realistic tone and introspective gaze. The film combines an intimate narrative with a moving lead performance, exploring family bonds, inclusion, and personal discovery with profound sensitivity. Its participation in Thessaloniki reaffirms the growing presence of independent cinema from the Southern Cone and highlights the region’s ability to tell universal stories through local perspectives.
