The Mar del Plata International Film Festival, which will celebrate its 40th edition from November 6 to 16, has announced part of its lineup along with the career awards that will be presented this year.

Initial Lineup

The announced titles include:

• Sirât, by Franco-Spanish director Oliver Laxe, starring Sergi López, winner of the Jury Prize at Cannes.

• Sorda, the debut feature of Spanish filmmaker Eva Libertad, recognized at the festivals of Berlin, Guadalajara, and Málaga.

• The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo, by Chilean director Diego Céspedes, awarded in Un Certain Regard at Cannes 2025.

• A Poet, by Colombian filmmaker Simón Mesa Soto, also honored in the same section at Cannes.

• The President’s Cake, by Iraqi director Hasan Hadi, awarded in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes.

• A Useful Ghost, by Thai director Ratchapoom Boonbuchachoke, recognized at Cannes Critics’ Week.

• The trilogy by Norwegian director Dag Johan Haugerud, composed of Sex (Berlinale 2024), Love (Venice 2024), and Dreams, the latter winner of the Golden Bear at Berlin 2025.

Career Awards

The festival will also honor three Argentine artists with special recognitions:

• Juan José Jusid, on the 50th anniversary of Los gauchos judíos, which will be screened in a restored copy by Fundación Gotika.

• Marilina Ross, with 4K screenings of La Raulito and La Raulito en libertad, both directed by Lautaro Murúa, restored by Argentina Sono Film, Cubic Restoration, and the Society for Audiovisual Heritage.

• Miguel Ángel Solá, who turns 75 and marks 55 years of career, with a special cycle of five of his films: Asesinato en el Senado de la Nación, Tangos, el exilio de Gardel, Casas de fuego, Una sombra ya pronto serás, and El último traje.

Upcoming Announcements

The full lineup will be officially presented on October 21 at the Cine Gaumont in Buenos Aires, during the festival’s press conference.
