“Contracampo” changes its name: Fuera de Campo is born, already preparing its second edition and opening its call for entries

The Argentine film showcase Contracampo, which emerged in 2024 as a critical response to the INCAA’s administration and the changes in leadership at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, is entering a new phase. Starting this year, it will be renamed Fuera de Campo and has already confirmed its second edition for November, with an open call for Argentine films.

According to its organizers, the name change does not alter the spirit of the event, which will continue to be a self-managed and political space devoted to highlighting the diversity, richness, and strength of national cinema. “Contracampo will no longer be Contracampo, but the space and its orientation remain unchanged,” they stated.

The first edition, held in parallel to the Mar del Plata Festival in 2024, brought together a wide selection of past and present films, providing them with a venue where they could be screened, seen, and discussed—away from institutional constraints. Fuera de Campo was born out of a self-organized initiative, driven by discontent within the filmmaking community regarding the dismantling of public policies and the increasing marginalization of independent productions.

“It has been proven that, despite efforts to deny it, there is an audience interested in watching Argentine cinema,” say the organizers. The showcase reaffirms its commitment to building a space for gathering and resistance—one that opens the door to the many forms of representation within national cinema, including those still absent from streaming platforms and traditional exhibition models.
