John Turturro will receive the Golden Eye Award at the Zurich Film Festival, which will hold its 22nd edition from September 24 to October 4. The American actor, screenwriter and director will accept the award on September 26 and will take part in one of the festival’s Masters sessions the following day.

Turturro will be honored for his performance in The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, written and directed by Noah Segan, in which he plays Harry, a seasoned pickpocket whose carefully controlled life begins to unravel after a job goes wrong. Set on the streets of New York, the film combines elements of a crime thriller with the portrait of a man forced to confront the choices that have shaped his life.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Turturro has worked with filmmakers including Spike Lee, Joel and Ethan Coen, Martin Scorsese, Robert Redford, Robert De Niro, Nanni Moretti and Pedro Almodóvar. His performances in Lee’s Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever brought him early recognition, while his role in the Coen brothers’ Barton Fink earned him the Best Actor Award at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival.

His other notable credits include Miller’s Crossing, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Big Lebowski, in which he played the iconic Jesus Quintana, Quiz Show, The Batman, The Room Next Door and Severance. Alongside his acting career, Turturro has directed films including Mac, which earned him the Camera d’Or at Cannes, as well as Illuminata, Romance & Cigarettes, Passione and Fading Gigolo.

On television, Turturro won an Emmy for his guest appearance on Monk and received nominations for his performances in The Night Of and Severance. The festival also announced that Zurich-born actress Elisabeth Baume-Schneider will receive a Golden Eye Award. She appears this year in Eurotrash and the animated film De Rägebogefisch.
