The Annecy International Animation Film Festival announced its 2026 lineup

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival announced this Tuesday its program for the 2026 edition, which will feature prominent figures such as Ricky Gervais, Oscar-winning director Brad Bird, and acclaimed animators the Brothers Quay. The event will take place from June 21 to 27 in the French city of Annecy, slightly later than usual due to the prior scheduling of the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains.

Considered the world’s leading animation festival, the event welcomed a record 18,000 attendees in 2025, including more than 6,500 industry professionals. For the upcoming edition, the presence of Mike Judge has also been confirmed; he will receive the Honorary Cristal, along with Travis Knight, who will attend with an exhibition dedicated to his upcoming project.

Among the highlights, Gervais will deliver a masterclass focused on his new animated series for Netflix, while Bird will take part in a presentation on his sci-fi project “Ray Gunn.” The same showcase will also preview a forthcoming Ghostbusters series, alongside other special events such as a retrospective on Aardman Animations.

Major U.S. studios will have a strong presence. Walt Disney Animation Studios will unveil never-before-seen footage from “Hexed,” while Pixar will present previews of “Gatto.” Warner Bros. Animation, for its part, will showcase new productions related to Batman and Looney Tunes.

The official selection will include around 50 feature films, with 11 titles in the main competition, including several world premieres and productions that have screened at the Cannes Film Festival. There will also be a Contrechamp section dedicated to independent works, as well as numerous parallel activities, including presentations of projects in development and professional gatherings at the international animation market, which will hold its 41st edition with the participation of nearly a thousand companies.
