The 36th edition of the prestigious Festival International de Cinéma de Marseille (FIDMarseille) concluded this Sunday, July 13, with Fuck the Polis, by acclaimed Portuguese filmmaker Rita Azevedo Gomes, crowned as the grand winner of the International Competition. The film, which combines poetry and the director’s characteristic critical perspective, was celebrated by a jury this year composed of Lebanese filmmaker Ghassan Salhab, American programmer Sophie Cavoulacos, and Rúl Camargo, director of the International Film Festival of Valdivia in Chile.
Among the first features, Los cruces, by Argentine filmmaker Julián Garay, received a Special Mention, reinforcing the Latin American presence in the section dedicated to new voices in contemporary cinema. Meanwhile, Cobre, by Mexican filmmaker Nicolás Pereda, was awarded a Special Mention within the International Competition, recognizing its unique narrative approach and contribution to the exploration of new cinematic forms.
