On Tuesday, April 15, the official lineup for the 57th edition of the Directors’ Fortnight, one of the most anticipated parallel sections of the Cannes Film Festival, was announced. As with the other sections revealed so far, no Argentine productions are included in the selection.
Among the standout titles is the world premiere of +10K, the new work by filmmaker Gala Hernández López. The Spanish director was present in Argentina last year, where she participated in the Syncro Film Fest with her short film for here am I sitting in a tin can far above the world and gave a talk at the SyncroLAB space titled “New Narratives, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence in Contemporary Cinema.”
In total, the selection committee of the Directors’ Fortnight watched 1,605 feature films and 2,534 short and medium-length films before finalizing the lineup. Julien Rejl, the General Delegate of the Directors’ Fortnight, was the one to announce the titles that will be part of this new edition.
The program will open with Enzo, an unfinished film by Laurent Cantet, which was completed by Robin Campillo following the filmmaker’s passing in April of this year. The film tells the story of a young apprentice builder from southern France (played by Eloy Pohu, a debuting actor under 25), who decides to break away from his bourgeois family environment.
Among the French names to watch within the selection are Louise Hémon with L’Engloutie, her first feature film, as well as new works by Thomas Ngijol, Anthony Cordier, and Julia Kowalski.
